Software for Processing Patent Claims
Svetlana Sheremetyeva, Ph.D., LanA Consulting ApS

Abstract

Presented is a set of efficient tools which cover different aspects of patent analysis and composition (including claims):

  • A keyword extractor (can be run on whole patents and/or claims only):
    • High processing speed
    • Intelligent "human face" output: relevant and grammatically correct single- and multiword terms
  • A patent structure analyzer
    • Identifies claims in a patent and creates a tree of claims with explicit presentation of main and dependent claims parent-child relations
  • A patent claim text composer
    • Automatically creates grammatically and legally correct claims in European and US formats; the user is to only provide terminology phrases following a computer-driven interview; the tool then takes care of the complex claim syntax and produces a final text ready to use in a patent document.

All tools have user-friendly interfaces and can be used both by human experts, and for automatic patent base indexing, information retrieval, novelty examination, claim composition, patent expert training, etc.
